Hobby Adjacent(/Replacement) - Coffee Update

It has been just over 3 years since i did my original coffee post.

"Am I now inundated in beans?" you may be asking yourself.    No,  not at all.

The combination of nasty-ass seasons and my coffee-unsuitable location have meant that the plants have 'grown somewhat' but have hardly flourished.  I've generally been excited seeing new growth (eventually) to replace the frost bitten brown-tipped leaves of the prior season. This pic was April 2021, so last autumn...

The summer seasons recently have demonstrated brutal heatwave days with no rainfall - smoke-laden, darkened skies for weeks on end - or last year, weeks of cloud with historic floods. Just generally craptastic, all the plants just kind of put in a token effort, and who'd blame them.

Never-the-less the coffee plants have held on, bonsai'd as they are, and I like them for their tenacity, even if they're not fruity.

This season however, in November 2021, I was happy to spot the first little flower!!

One (potential) bean could hardly be called a bumper harvest... even though it was a 100% improvement on production for any prior year, or all prior years combined even.

We were actually out of town over xmas/new years and when we returned (the plants were alive! yhay!) and there was another TWO flowers!!

That's one super-weak cup of java each, and a spare.

I also noticed some other little bud looking things that could be even more flowers, so the sky's the limit.... swimming in beans... coming soon.

I think this might be the original flower (below), and it's looking like it might be beaning up!!

Anyway, as usually it's just a case of see what happens, we could get a hail storm tomorrow that strips the plants bare.   Just something fun/different for me to watch.

Arrow Style

I've taken to making my pointy picture arrows pink/fuchsia/cyan...   People don't use this colour much anywhere so it actually stands out, unlike reds/yellow/lime etc.

Hobby

I've done very little.  The government has pretty much crushed whatever interest I had in gaming with other people,   either by denying everyone contact with each other effectively forming the social networks we had,    or more insidiously, drawing people into conflict with each other through their ongoing campaign of fear, lies, and mindless desire to exert unquestionable control over the entire population.

Vote them out.  Anyone in power needs to go, they've demonstrated they're not there to serve the population but their own interests.  Time to give the minor parties an opportunity to actually support and represent the will of the people rather than maintaining career politicians interested in entrenching their own power and fortunes and those of their corporate sponsors.

I'm sure a time in the not too distant future will demonstrate how despicable the government has been, but this era has at least shown people's true colours.  And to clarify that: that's not a criticism of the hobby folk, rather a comment on how weakly our societal groups are joined in general.

Until next time...
